Single sleeping bags

A sleeping bag may be the most important accessory, after choosing a tent, on a trip that involves camping. It can make the difference between a restful sleep and a terrible sleep, which will influence the whole well-being of your holiday with your loved ones.

Making the right choice for buying a sleeping bag is not easy at all. There are many aspects you need to consider and you get impressed when you have the whole range of sleeping bags and you have to choose the right one. That's why we've prepared a little guide on what you need to keep in mind when you buy sleeping bags.

Characteristics to consider when choosing a sleeping bag:

The size - single sleeping bag

Most sleeping bags are manufactured in size M, standard, height up to 180 cm.

It refers to the lowest temperature at which the bag keeps the user warm during sleep. When a bag is described as being for -6 degrees, it means that users should sleep comfortably if the air temperature does not drop below -6 degrees. This assessment involves the person wearing a linen coat and an insulating mat.
You should not forget that the metabolism of each person varies, some being warmer, others not. Therefore, it is usually suggested that the user buy the recommended sleeping bag at temperatures 5-10 degrees lower than the lowest temperature you expect to meet during the time and area where you will be camping. It's easier to open the sleeping bag zipper because it's hot, but it's much harder to warm yourself if it's cold.

Depending on the temperature assessment, sleeping bags are divided into 3 categories, most sleeping bag models being rated for temperatures between -10 and 10 degrees Celsius.

• Summer season: for temperatures above + 15 degrees Celsius.

• 3 seasons: for temperatures between -12 and +15 degrees Celsius.

• Winter: for temperatures below -12 degrees Celsius.

Comfort Assessment refers to the optimal outside temperature in which you will sleep warm and comfortable in your sleeping bag. If the user uses the bag at temperatures below this comfort rating, then it may feel the cold. Because women feel the cold easier than men, this rating is higher by a few degrees than the comfort rating for a man.

Extreme rating refers to the survival temperature. More simply, it refers to the limit to which the bag keeps the user alive without frostbite or cold-related illnesses as hypothermia. It's not what many people think, the smallest temperature at which you will feel comfortable sleeping in the bag and it is not recommended to regularly use the bag for these temperatures. An Extreme Rating of -28 degrees Celsius is an extremely high rating, and this means it is a bag designed to keep the user alive in extreme temperature conditions where there is a threat to hypothermia.

Season of use

Traditionally, sleeping bags are also classified according to the season. Thus, a recommended summer bag will certainly not be suitable for cold and vice versa.
• Season 1: The bag is suitable for the summer when the weather is warm and the night temperatures do not fall below +5 degrees Celsius.

• Season 2: The bag is suitable for spring and summer at minimum temperatures of 0 degrees Celsius.

• Season 3: The bag is suitable for spring, summer and autumn. They are also suitable for cold nights of less than -5 degrees Celsius, but keep in mind that seasonal temperatures vary from country to country, and sleeping bags may not fit in temperatures.

• Season 4: The bag is suitable all year round, even for very cold winter temperatures from -12 degrees down.

3. Sleeping bag isolation

Another choice you will have to make is the isolation of the sleeping bag. So you can choose between natural materials (like goose pudding) or synthetic materials.
From here you will choose strictly according to your preferences, not being constrained by external factors such as weather and seasonality, factors that we have mentioned in the above ranks.
